This song was written for the infamous Song Fu competition. The challenge was to write a Christmas song that was not about Christmas. "After I Have Gone" was heavily inspired by Richard Shindell's beautiful song "Before You Go". It continues the narrative from the perspective of Jesus, shortly before he arrives on earth, and then in the last verse right before he returns to heaven.
