Written on April 25th, 2004, at the shore of Lake Constance. The music was inspired by Dar Williams. The song is for all those who keep hearing the call of the sea.
lyrics
I grew up by the sea, a long time ago
I was a child of the coast and the cliffs below
When my heart was weary, I spoke to the waves
While they soaked up all my tears
Now my feet touch the white sands again
But my traces won't last too long
They'll be washed away by the incoming tide
Before the day is done
I'll board my ship, I'll set the sails, I'll follow the wake of Columbus
I won't look back, I will not wail, I'll follow the light of the dawn
I grew up by the sea, a long time ago
And I shared with her all the secrets I know
As the times were changing, I could still hear her voice
She was with me all those years
Now my feet touch the white sands again
But my traces won't last too long
They'll be washed away by the incoming tide
Before the day is done
I'll board my ship, I'll set the sails, I'll follow the wake of Columbus
I won't look back, I will not wail, I'll follow the light of the dawn
I grew up by the sea, a long time ago
But wanderlust drew me into into the unknown
I climbed all the mountains, I walked every street
But my longing still remained
Now my feet touch the white sands again
But my traces won't last too long
They'll be washed away by the incoming tide
Before the day is done
I'll board my ship, I'll set the sails, I'll follow the wake of Columbus
I won't look back, I will not wail, I'll follow the light of the dawn
I'll board my ship, I'll set the sails, I'll follow the wake of Columbus
I won't look back, I will not wail, I'll follow the light of the dawn
The light of the dawn
